Star Sapphire Kara Zor-El also known as Supergirl.

Since the lost of her father she has had a heavy heart. The Sapphire Ring saw that she needed to love and has filled her with love. As she recited the words to give her power.

" For hearts long lost and full of fright,
For those alone in blackest night,
Accept our ring and join our fight,
Love conquers all-- With violet light! "

She beckon you to join her.

I think this is a really lovely idea brought to nifty fruition! The foreshortening on the extended hand doesn't quite work, but you draw so much better than I do that I have no idea how to advise you on fixing it.

What does a person need in order to become a Star Sapphire? the capacity to love, or to have suffered because of love?

So far in the comic series it seem to be either. if you have suffered lost of love because of events you are more likely to lose your self when you get encase by the love of the ring.
